Wolff Audio Tutti – 500 Series Discrete Mic/Instrument Preamp
OVERVIEW
The Wolff Audio Tutti is a meticulously crafted 500 Series microphone and instrument preamp that captures the unmistakable character of the legendary “Floater” preamp used in the original Studio 1 console at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood. Developed as a collaboration between Wolff Audio and Sunset Sound, the Tutti pays tribute to pioneering audio engineer Tutti Camarata, whose innovative console design helped shape the sound of thousands of iconic recordings.
Working closely with Tutti’s son, Paul Camarata, legendary console designer Paul Wolff recreated the sonic DNA of the original circuit in a modern 500 Series format. Authenticity was paramount, which is why the design features custom dual Cinemag nickel transformers created by renowned transformer designer David Geren, whose work was also used in the original console.
With discrete dual 990 op-amps, more than 60dB of gain, and ultra-low distortion, the Tutti delivers the warmth, punch, and clarity that defined classic Sunset Sound recordings. Its elegant yet simple design provides exceptional headroom and a remarkably wide frequency response, making it an ideal choice for capturing vocals, instruments, and performances with timeless analogue character.
