Its role as the primary microphone in spaced omni and Decca Tree configurations made it the gold standard for orchestral, film score and large ensemble recordings.
The Science Behind the Sound
What makes the M 50 truly unique is its omnidirectional capsule mounted inside a 40 mm sphere. This design creates a frequency-dependent polar response: omnidirectional at low frequencies, increasingly directional above 1 kHz. The result is powerful, proximity-effect-free bass combined with exceptional spatial definition and treble “reach” in large rooms.

The M 50 V uses the K 33 Ti capsule, an improved version of the most sought-after historical design. Featuring an ultra-thin titanium diaphragm, it delivers breathtaking transient accuracy, clarity and long-term stability – essential for capturing complex orchestral dynamics.
Authentic Tube Tone, Updated for Today’s Studios
The transformer-coupled tube circuit follows the final M 50 c revision, with a new ultra-low-noise tube replacing the unobtainable AC701k. An RF-proof connector and modern NM V power supply ensure stable operation in today’s electrically dense studio environments, without compromising sonic purity.
A Complete, Studio-Ready System
Supplied as a complete set, the M 50 V includes the NM V power supply, KC 5 cable, shock mount and iconic yoke mount – now improved with mechanical decoupling and cable noise suppression. Handmade in Germany, it is a no-compromise reissue of one of the most important microphones ever created.
